Course Information:

Woods I is a semester course that provides students with an understanding of wood related construction. Students will learn the safe and proper use of tools and machines used in the woodworking industry. Students will demonstrate the safe and proper use of hand tools and machines through safety tests, machine demonstrations, and the construction of various required projects.

Outcomes:

  • Develop an understanding of plan reading, measurements, plan creation, and basic unit conversions

  • Practice safe and efficient use of tools, machinery, and materials in the woods shop

  • Understand and demonstrate knowledge of wood joints, finishing methods and fasteners through project construction

  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate problems, concerns, and multi-step processes to teacher and peers

  • Synthesize concepts of measurements, procedures and 3D modeling through the creation of project plans

  • Apply proper moral conduct and wood shop etiquette in/out of the shop

  • Express knowledge of skills and methods related to woodworking, tools and techniques used to create a project from beginning to end

  • Utilize documentation and presentation of personal work or achievements through preparation and assembly of a semester work portfolio
